Privacy
Effective 2 November 2026.
RepoTutor does not ask you to create an account, and it does not take payment. The website is static files. Building a course happens in your browser. The repository names, README text, and zip are not uploaded to a RepoTutor server.
What the page itself does
- Course title, repository names, and the pass mark stay in the form in your browser until you reload the page.
- If the address includes
?repos=or?title=, the page reads those in the browser to prefill the form. That is how a Pinklone "Learn it" link opens a repository list here. The site's own code does not send that list to RepoTutor. - The site's own code does not set cookies and does not use
localStorageorsessionStorage. - The zip is built in the browser and downloaded to your computer. The on-page preview has no LMS, so scores are not recorded there.
Calls your browser makes to GitHub
When you press Build course, your browser calls GitHub's public API directly, once for each owner/repo you entered:
https://api.github.com/repos/{owner}/{repo}/readmewithAccept: application/vnd.github.raw, to read the README.https://api.github.com/repos/{owner}/{repo}/licensewithAccept: application/vnd.github+json, to read the detected license. If that request fails, the course treats the repository as having no detected license.
Relative images in a README are rewritten to https://raw.githubusercontent.com/{owner}/{repo}/HEAD/..., and your browser loads them from GitHub. GitHub receives these requests, including your IP address, under GitHub's privacy policy. RepoTutor does not receive a copy of the responses.
Vercel hosting and analytics
Vercel hosts the site, so a request for a page is handled by Vercel. Pages include Vercel Web Analytics (/_vercel/insights/script.js). Vercel describes that product as not using third-party cookies. It identifies a visitor with a hash of the request that it says is discarded within about a day, and it uses the data for aggregated statistics. A page view can include the time, URL, referrer, query parameters (subject to Vercel's filtering), approximate location, operating system, browser, and device type. RepoTutor does not configure a custom filter, so a visit to /?repos=owner/repo&title=... can include those query parameters in analytics. Vercel documents this at vercel.com/docs/analytics/privacy-policy.
The command-line tool
The optional captvibe.py tool runs on your computer. It calls the same public GitHub README and license endpoints. If you set GITHUB_TOKEN, that token is sent only to api.github.com. The website has no field for a token. Do not put one in the page.
Other sites
The home page links to Pinklone (pinklone.com) as an outside catalog of example projects. Following that link leaves this site. RepoTutor does not sell personal information. It does not ask for your name, email, or payment details.
